My name is Luke Meyers and I will be your friendly, funny and fearless guide on your Wild Bear Safari. I came to Alaska 10 years ago for a 14 day vacation and guess what, I never left! I have been blessed with the opportunity to guide locally owned bear tours for the last 7 years and I love it. Come enjoy the majestic beauty and exciting wildlife with me. Tour Infos
Wild Bear Safari is a locally owned and operated tour company in Hoonah, Alaska. We offer personalized land based nature and bear viewing tours on the majestic Chichagof island.
Leave your ship in Icy Strait and head to The “Excursion Hub” just a short walk from the dock. I will be there with a smile to meet you.
First, in our small group, I’ll show you our sleepy Alaskan fishing village. Then we’ll head out on the back roads, in remote country on the hunt for Bear. We’ll troll the bridges over salmon streams, check out beaches, berry patches, if the groups up for it we’ll hike one of my favorite forest trails – Oh, and by hike I mean an easy and pleasant jaunt. The goal is to view our bears at a safe distance feeding on salmon, local berries, or just lumbering through the forest.
Tour times can range from 3-4 hr depending on your schedule. Hiking will be an option for groups who are up to it. While we bear search, I will inform our awesome group about bear safety, the history of the local population, and about our beautiful surroundings. I also got some stories that will keep you on the edge of your seat!
After our exciting time together, you can choose whether you’d like explore in town a bit, or to go back to explore all the fun shops and activities where your Ship is docked. We have never been late for the all-aboard. In fact, we guarantee you will be safe and on board long before your departure.

Tongass
Known by the U.S. Forest Service as the “crown jewel”, the Tongass stretches across 17 million acres of land and is Alaska’s largest National Forest. Alaska Wilderness League describes the Tongass as “one of the last remaining intact temperate rainforests in the world”.
Your personalized tour will start at Icy Strait on the beautiful Chichagof Island which has the highest Brown Bear Population in the world!
